# 2938  2019 All Tournament Teams

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

# 2923  Fairport Wins First Title Since 2014

After losses in the Championship games to Penfield (9-8) last season and Pittsford (9-5) two years ago, the Red Raiders were bent on getting their first Section Five Title since 2014.  Fairport scored five goals in the second half while holding the Hilton offense scoreless to defeat the Cadets 9-4.  Key players in the success were face-off midfielder Jake Knapp and sophomore midfielder Rob Crowley.  Crowley finished with 4g on the night and Knapp finished at 8/13 at the face-off.  Both were named to the All Tournament Team for Fairport.  Knapp’s success was even more impressive based on Hilton face-off midfielder Shawn Doran’s season.  Doran finished the season at 82% with 306 wins.  Before tonight, he had never had less than 50% day at the faceoff.  Doran, for his performance throughout the Tournament was also named to the All Tournament Team.

# 2913  Fairport Advances to Class A Finals

Top seeded Fairport came out and strong and finished even stronger in their 11-6 win over fifth seeded Penfield.  The Red Raiders came into tonight's contest looking for revenge from last season's 9-8 loss in the Championship matchup.  The Patriots led that game for nearly the entire contest and held off a late advance by the Red Raiders.  Tonight, the game was the opposite with Fairport taking control and the Patriots looking for the comeback.

# 2909  Penfield Wins Seconds OT Straight

In the only break of the night, fifth seeded Penfield defeated 4th seeded Greece Storm in overtime 10-9.  The Patriots took off in the first half and led by six at one point before Greece fought back to a pair of ties in the fourth quarter.  Although the Storm did not ever take the lead, they sent the game into overtime with a goal at 0:21 remaining in regulation.  Senior midfielder Max Hoadley scored the game winning goal on the first shot of overtime to secure the win for the Patriots.

# 2859  Schroeder Wins in Overtime

Schroeder improved to 5-4 with an overtime win against Penfield 8-7.  Nick Hauman scored the winning overtime goal for Schroeder.  This is the second game of the season where the Patriots have lost in overtime.  Schroeder came to dominate the first half before Penfield began a comeback in third quarter.

# 2838  Penfield Comes Back to Give OP First Loss

Penfield delivered Orchard Park their first loss of the season with a comeback win over the Quakers.  The Patriots won 10-8 after scoring the final four goals of the game and holding Orchard Park scoreless for the final six minutes of the game.  Michael Mitchell scored two of the final four goals and finished with 4g on the game.  Overall, Travis Wagner’s performance in the cage was the lynchpin for the Patriots.  He finished with 21 saves (72%) including multiple point blank saves.  John Richiusa finished 10/15 at the draw and won four straight draws to keep the ball in the Patriot half for the four goal stretch.

# 2832  Hilton Wins in Overtime

Hilton fought back from an early deficit to defeat Penfield 8-7 in the first overtime period.  The Cadets scored the game winning goal 3:28 into the first overtime period with an unassisted goal from Brenden Howell.  The Cadets controlled the ball for the majority of overtime and didn’t allow the Patriots a shot at the cage in overtime.  Hilton scored three of the final four goals in the game after trailing 0-3 after the first 10 minutes.

# 1430  Penfield Wins First Title Since 2012

Penfield held off a late press by Fairport to become the Class A Champions with a 9-8 win over the Red Raiders.  This is the first Sectional Title for Penfield since 2013.  The Patriots and Red Raiders have now face three times in the Title Game and Penfield now has a 2-1 lead.  Prior to today, Fairport defeated Penfield in 2012 and Penfield defeated Fairport in 1993.

# 1418  Penfield Advances to Finals

In the second game of the Class A double-header second seeded Penfield defeated third seeded Greece Storm 13-5 to move on the Semi-Finals.  The Patriots will move on to face top seeded Fairport at St. John Fisher College on Tuesday.  This is the first time Penfield has made the Finals since 2015.  The last time that Penfield won the big game was 2013.

THURSDAY: DAY IN REVIEW: Three of the fourteen games played today were one-goal games. Pittsford fended off a last minute barrage from Fairport, Brighton saw a goal from Lukas Stanat (5g) to break their tie with Hilton and Cullen Coons scored his third goal of the game in the first overtime period to give Livonia-Avon the 17-16 win over Marcus Whitman.

SATURDAY: DAY IN REVIEW: Local games were postponed due to cold and sometimes snowy weather. Thre out of town games, however were played as the vacation week came to an end. Penfield used the last quarter to get their 9-7 win against West Islip (Section 11). Pal-Mac lost to Cathedral Prep (Erie, PA) and Pittsford lost to Baldwinsville (Section 3).

Penfield scored the final three goals of the game to defeat West Islip 9-7.  The Lions have played a tough opening schedule and are currently 1-4, with their most recent loss to Ward Melville in OT 6-5.  The Patriots, now 3-1, came into today’s game off their lone loss to West Genesee earlier in the week.

# 1340  West Genesee Defeats Penfield

West Genesee scored six of the first eight goals in their 13-10 win over Penfield.  The Wildcats were led in scoring by Max Rosa with 6g.  Although the Patriots kept the game close and forced a tie three times, West Genesee held control through most of the second half.  In the fourth quarter, Penfield never got closer than two.

# 1339  Irondequoit Over Pittsford and Midlakes Wins in OT

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: Of the eleven games pplayed today on the eve of spring break, most were played in wet conditions. The big exception was Victor who hosted Jamesville-DeWitt at the Pinnacle indoor facility in Victor. The Blue Devils took a commanding lead, at one point up 7-1, but the highly regarded and NYS Class C finalist came back and made for an exciting finish with Victor the winner 13-10.
